I read this on DCRTV site.. I hope the junks still stay in DC. but it would be pretty nice to have a all DC show again for DC
Farewell Junks - 4/11 - From All Access: "Westwood One is dropping syndication of WJFK/Washington's 'Sports Junkies' show in mid-May. Affiliates are reportedly being told the network is not planning to offer a replacement for now." No official word on the Junks' status on their home station, the DC area's 106.7.....

Hey Baby, if anyone is trying to be Mr NYC, it's Mike! *although you must admit since the 1st of the new year the show seems to have gotten back on track*! And not to defend Don, but you have got to know Mike and the rest are as jazzed to be on in NYC as he is/was. It is simply the biggest market in the world. Careers are made and broken here. I know you *non* NY'ers don't like to hear that, but tis a fact. Like the song says, If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere!

Yep, the show has gotten a little better, you live in NY so the only time you ever heard them was when they started in NY..I have had a few more years to hear before NY. >> I feel the show's not as good as it use to be.. I bet money if you heard them for years and years, then you hear them after the NY move , you would agree with me.. Still a good show, but not as great as it use to be.. Maybe Syndications ruins every show some 1kitty

Wow! I hope that's not 100% true. I think that they've done the best in settling into the syndication mode, while still remaining close to their original beginnings. Of course, they did sort of have D&M to watch, and see what could be done right (it took them long enough to really figure it out themselves, but once they did they were comfortable with it) and then see what could be done wrong (ie: Sluts For New York).
It is my guess that The Junkies will still be carried on individual stations that still want to make private deals; where their shows still do well. There are a number that still do well by them, and will be willing to pay them directly (sort of the deal Howard has).
A local show would be money, but the hook that they are national has helped them get more and more guests, which come in handy when they are doing the mock-drafts, and especially during football season.
What's hurt them, in my opinion, is their lack of depth of all sports; they are excellent when talking football, basketball and golf, but they are painful to listen to when they try to discuss hockey.
WHY would they be so upfront with their hatred for a sport that so many sports fans (even in a non-hockey town) do enjoy? Ever notice the phones light up that one time a year they talk hockey?!
Anyway...the lack of depth for all sports, the fantasy crap (eeesh! enough already!), the gay bashing, their friends and the fact that three of them sound exactly the same!
I'm sorry - I know I'm in the minority here, but whenever JP, Cakes or EB start talking, I have no idea who one is or the other, unless they say certain phrases. I'm finally getting better at figuring out Cakes voice, a bit, but I've been listening since the weekend shows, and I just can't imagine how a new listener would want to come back to this.
(All of that said...I love the show...call me a donkey! :D )
Cameron has helped out tremedously with the show, and I actually think they are in a position to go up, not down, so I hope (for that reason) that they aren't being dropped from all of the stations on the network.

ps - I do think D&M have begun to turn a corner since going on live in NY. They won't be where they were before, but they are still better than a lot of the other crap that's out there.

It took me awhile to learn who was who when it came to voices, but after a little while it's pretty damn easy. I think the Junkies do a damn good job of being regular guys sitting around talking; much, much better than O&A. Despite the fact that they call themselves the "Sports Junkies" and are ostensibly a sports talk show, they really aren't. I don't think they have any obligation to cover every sport, or to talk about sports they don't really care about. If you want hockey, go listen to WTEM. I'd rather hear about Bickel's porn collectin and Lurchy's angling for the horns.

I still can't tell the difference between the 3 of them, Lurch is the only one i know when he talks. I try really hard but they sound almost identical. but that doesnt bother me.... I notice on the junkies website anyone who post about them losing the syndication deal has the post deleted.. Don't you just love Censorship 1cat
(EDIT) ... nah, I just can't - J

I have to agree. The "sports junkies" show is not really about sports.
Sure they talk about sports but they usually talk about everyday stuff.
I like the back pack with what appears to be a bag of pepperidge farms goldfish hooked to it. lol dance1
